Craniosacral Therapy:
Gentle, Profound Release and Relief for the Whole Body
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch, non-invasive form of bodywork that supports the body’s natural healing process by gently working with the Craniosacral system.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) originated in the early 20th century with Dr. William Sutherland, an osteopath who discovered subtle rhythmic movements in the cranial bones, challenging the long-held belief that the skull is immobile.
In the 1970s, Dr. John Upledger expanded on Sutherland’s work, formalizing CST as a gentle, hands-on technique that supports the body’s natural healing by releasing tension through the Craniosacral system and enhancing nervous system function.

What is the Craniosacral System?
The Craniosacral system includes the Cranium (skull), the spine, and the sacrum (the smaller, triangular-shaped pelvic bone located at the base of the spine), as well as the membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that are housed within them. The membranes and CSF protect and support the brain and spinal cord (a.k.a. “the central nervous system”).
How does it help?
Craniosacral Therapy works by using very gentle, sustained holds (with a pressure that is typically no heavier than five grams, or the weight of a single nickel) to assist in releasing fascial restrictions around the craniosacral system. The release of these restrictions improves the overall state of the body’s central nervous system and thus, assists in bringing the body back into a more balanced state through more proper functioning of the body’s other systems (the digestive system, the respiratory system, etc).
Conditions that can benefit from CST:
• Headaches/Migraines
• Stress, Anxiety, and Depression
•Neck and Back pain
• Fibromyalgia
• Sleep Issues/Insomnia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
• Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)
• Sinusitis/Sinus Infections
• Vertigo/Inner Ear Issues
• Whiplash
• Digestive Issues
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD
• Connective Tissue Disorders (EDS)
• Scoliosis
What Can I expect in my Session?
Sessions are performed fully clothed (although you may still be under sheets/blankets if you feel chilly). Your practitioner will place their hands lightly on certain areas of the body (including but not limited to your head, spine, sacrum, or elsewhere) in order to tune into the subtle rhythms and release deep tension patterns to reduce symptoms and improve overall functioning of the body.
Clients report experiencing sensations of warmth, soft pulsing, or a gentle unwinding as the restrictions begin to release. At the completion of a session, clients report a deeper level of relaxation and peace, as well as an ease of symptoms associated with stress, tension, and pain/discomfort.
Ready to feel more grounded, clear, present, and whole?
If you are experiencing symptoms of pain, discomfort, tension, stress, or you are simply seeking a deeper connection to your body, CST offers a safe, compassionate space to return to balance. Schedule a session today and discover what’s possible.
